The main objective of the project ``Modeling and Performance
Evaluation'' is to provide insight into the behavior of computer
and telecommunication systems. Two complementary approaches are
proposed, the emphasis being really laid on the first one :
- Stochastic modeling.
- Simulation.
Starting from real-world problems, we strive to develop
general methods and tools for the analysis of efficiency,
stability and control of a wide class of systems. The selection
of problems is, to a large extent, driven by new applications as
they arise (for instance, recently, public service vehicle
networks). With stochastic processes, queueing theory and
analytic methods (functions of several complex variables) as
basic theoretical tools, four areas of research are currently
pursued :
- Models of telecommunication systems (protocols,
random-access algorithms, etc.) ;
- models of parallel and distributed architectures ;
- queueing networks and random walks (models, package QNAP2)
;
- large random systems and connections with statistical
mechanics.
