MEVAL
The main objective of the project MODELING AND PERFORMANCE
EVALUATION is to provide insight into the behavior of
multi-component systems and communication networks. Two
complementary approaches are proposed, the emphasis being really
laid on the first one:
- Stochastic modeling.
- Simulation.
Starting from real-world problems, we strive to develop
methods and tools for the analysis of efficiency, stability and
control of a wide class of systems. The selection of problems is,
to a large extent, driven by new applications as they arise (for
instance, recently, public service vehicle networks), the goal
being always to provide strong relations between applied models
and fundamental mathematics. With stochastic processes, queueing
theory and analytic methods (functions of several complex
variables) as basic theoretical tools, four areas of research are
pursued, whose relative importance varies over time:
- models for transportation and telecommunication systems
(random-access algorithms, polling, high-speed and multi-class
networks);
- parallel systems and architectures;
- queueing networks and random walks (models, package MODLINE
);
- large random systems (thermodynamical limit, phase
transitions and connections with statistical mechanics; neural
networks).
