Abstract

Wave propagation is one of the most simple and common observed natural phenomena. The theoretical and numerical study of these phenomena is therefore a natural activity in various domains of physics and engineering.

The project activity is oriented toward the conception, the analysis, the numerical approximation and the control of mathematical models governing wave propagation phenomena in mechanics, physics and engineering. Our work covers acoustic, elastic electtomagnetic and gravity waves. It can be applied to various areas such as hydrodynamics, fluid-structure interaction, antennas, stealth technology, non destructive testing, oil prospection, integrated optics and micro-electronics.

More precisely, the general objectives of the project are:

• the development of our knowledge of the above mentioned type of waves and the mathematical methods of resolution of related problems.
• the treatment of realistic problems.
• the development of our own original numerical methods and softwares.

Following these objectives, we are naturally led to deal with important industrial applications. Our methodology generally fits the following lines:

• Mathematical modelling physical problems and conception of approximate models.
• Mathematical study of these models.
• Conception, analysis and implementation of numerical methods.
