Abstract

The project is involved in the investigation of problems associated with the control of mechanical systems, with Robotics as a privileged, but not exclusive, domain of application.

Research activities are centered around the objective of developing a methodology for the design and integration of all components participating in the control problem, from the synthesis and analysis of control algorithms, to the implementation of these algorithms on dedicated hardware, via associated programming tools and methods.

These activities are structured within three main themes:

• Control theory and application to Robotics. The richness of robotic applications makes it possible to experiment most recent Control Theory developments and also to broaden the theory by addressing non-standard problems.
• Acquisition and processing of sensory data for control purposes. Robots' capacities for autonomy are closely related to the use of exteroceptive sensors and exploitation of sensory data in the control loops.
• Real-time programming environment. The complexity of advanced robotic applications calls for the study and development of dedicated programming and simulation systems.

Besides its own means for experimentation, the project is involved in several actions driven by industrial partners. The project has also participated to several European Projects.
