R. Pasquetti has carried out a numerical study to compare different isoparametric mappings for the approximation of non polygonal domains with high order triangular finite elements. For elliptic problems and Fekete-Gauss spectral elements, it turns out that isoparametric mappings based on PDEs (Laplace, linear elasticity) yield better results than those based on transfinite mappings. The results are summarized in a JCP Note (see ).
