Despite the many advances in post-quantum cryptography in recent years, efficient drop-in replacements for the classic Diffie–Hellman key exchange algorithm have proven elusive. L. De Feo, J. Kieffer, and B. Smith laid the algorithmic groundwork for commutative isogeny-based key exchange in ; this work became the basis of the exciting new CSIDH proposal .
