Section: Application Domains
Hybrid Data Warehousing
Increasingly many modern applications need to exploit data from a variety of formats, including relations, text, trees, graphs etc. The recent development of data management systems aimed at “Big Data”, including NoSQL platforms, large-scale distributed systems etc. provides enteprise architects with many systems to chose from. This makes it hard to decide which part of the application data to handle in which system, especially given that each system is best at handling a specific kind of data and a certain class of operations. Oak investigates principled techniques for distributing an application's data sources across a variety of systems and data models, based on materialized views. We test our ideas in this area within the Datalyse project.
